Indianapolis Eye Care Tips: How to Eat Your Way to Healthier Eyes

You’ve probably heard that orange-colored vegetables such as carrots and squash are good for the eyes. It’s true. That’s because these vegetables are rich in beta-carotene, a type of vitamin A that helps the retina and other parts of the eye to function well. However, it’s not only beta-carotene that can help you with good eye care. Make sure the food you eat contains these essential nutrients to keep those ‘windows to your soul’ in tiptop shape. Antioxidants An antioxidant diet filled with vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, vitamin E, copper, zinc, and selenium can be beneficial to eye health. The retina and macula is particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress. Thus, getting rid of the body’s free radicals can in turn help maintain eye health. Foods rich in antioxidants include apples, blackcurrants, cheese, milk, salmon, and peanuts.
