The Truth Behind the Belief: Do Smart People Really Need Eyeglasses?

People believed for a long time that those who wear eyeglasses, particularly the young ones, are smarter. This idea has permeated the mindset of many people that some would wear glasses, even though they don’t need it, just to look smarter. According to a study published in the Journal of Ophthalmology, it appears that there is a sliver of truth to this belief. The results of the study suggest that myopia, or nearsightedness, becomes more prevalent as educational attainment goes up. Among people with no secondary school attainment, only 24% were nearsighted, while for secondary school graduates and vocational school graduates, 35% had nearsightedness. As for university graduates, a staggering 53% had the condition. So, apparently, the popular belief does hold some degree of truth—at least, in terms of the relationship between eyeglasses and increased knowledge.

Contacts or Eyeglasses? Four Ways to Decide, According to Eye Doctors

Contacts and eyeglasses are two non-surgical options for people with eyesight problems, but how are these two really different? To be honest, the option mostly relies on preference and taste. However, there are also certain circumstances when one option is undoubtedly better than the other. So here are a few things to consider before making a purchase.

Visit an Eye Doctor to Get Special Eyewear for Construction Sites

Constructing a building is one of those occupations that require a zero margin of error because of the potential dangers even a slightest mistake may cause. Aside from mathematical, architectural, and artisan knowledge, workers in the construction industry need to have something very basic to help them perform their tasks efficiently: a clear vision and adequate eye protection. According to Phil Johnson, in his article for Occupational Health and Safety magazine, the advent of summer underlines this need, as summer construction work is common, even in Indiana. Expansion work on at least three interstate highways in the state has began, and Indiana University-East has also started building a new student activity center.

Quality and Regular Eye Care—A Must for Software and IT Professionals

Software engineers and other IT professionals face tedious, yet rewarding, challenges almost every day. They are often tasked to write and test many lines of source code for new computer programs, maintain existing programs, or assist in developing system updates. Unfortunately, the long hours of working in front of the computer can bring a host of problems to their eyesight, thus warranting some eye care solutions, Martin Sussman wrote in his article for Healthy.net. The software and tech community in Indianapolis can have a good idea of what Sussman reported. A look around Routes 31 and 421, for example, show several companies that manufacture software for a variety of purposes, and a number of them are sure to eventually expand their operations. If you’re a professional in the software development or IT industry who has encountered vision problems for a while, address them with the help of eye care practitioners like Dr. Penn Moody of Moody Eyes.
